Service excellent, Sunday Roast excellent.
The pub has a lovely old coaching house feel to it, but boy it was freezing cold at table no. 1; we asked to be moved to another table and we were but the front bar room was just as chilly. It rather took away the pleasure of eating out. Time to light a roaring fire me thinks.
What can I say… The Bear is an outstanding venue. Having been here for a drink a couple of times, yesterday was the first time I stayed here as I was attending my two friends wedding. The ballroom was lovely. It was clean, beautifully kitted out and was a great backdrop for a beautiful wedding. The day went off without a hitch, the service was lovely, the buffet style menu was outstanding for what it was and the staff were very helpful and very polite. The only thing I can fault The Bear about it’s completely out of their hands. Yesterday was the hottest day of the year so far and as the Bear is a listed building, there was no air-con as this isn’t allowed. The venue was so so very hot and the room where like saunas. I’m not faulting the venue and it’s a 250+ year old building and they went out of their way to provide fans but it was very hot. I can imagine it would be super cozy and perfect during the winter months. The breakfast in the morning was great. I really enjoyed that as well. Otherwise I can’t really fault the venue for location, staff or customer service. A great place indeed
